Myanmar Bird Watching Trip (16D/15N)

Spoon-billed sandpiper (Eurynorhynchuspygmeus), which breeds in the north-eastern Russia and winters in Southeast Asia, is the most important specie in the world. According to the IUCN status, It threads Endangered (EN) in 2004 to Critically Endangered (CR) in 2008 rapidly. They migrate using the East Asian- Australasian Flyway in every year about 8000 km from its breeding ground. Myanmar is one of the main favorite spot during the winter season.

Day 1 Yangon Arrival

Arrive to Yangon and welcome by your Bird Guide and transfer to Hotel. We prefer morning flight. Check in & make sightseeing such as Sule Pagoda & Park, Chaukhtak Gyi, the world biggest marble stone Buddha Image. Dinner & Prepare for your trip and overnight at Hotel in Yangon .

Day 2 Yangon- Thatone -Gulf of Moattama (by car)

Early morning drive to Thaton for 4 hrs from Yangon. Lunch at Thaton.Then proceed to Zakayae village by boat for 1 hrs. After that prepare to go to the Gulf of Mottama.Then leave to the sea according to the tide situation. Overnight on the boat.

Day 3& 4 Gulf of Moattama (on boat)

Morning start your adventure for the rare species, Spoon-billed Sandpiper. Accommodation will be on traditional fishing boat, very basic. Meals should be on package. This optional tour should be arranged in advance.

Day 5 Gulf of Moattama – Thatone – Yangon (By boat & By Car)

Drive back to Yangon. On the way, you can visit to the famous culture sites such as Bago( the second Myanmar Empire founder , King Anarawatta’s old Palace place and Tahthone, ShweSarYan Pagoda. Transfer to Hotel and Overnight at Yangon.

Seasons: The best time to go is during from November to February (Bird migration time to Myanmar). Here we can see not only wintering Spoon-billed Sandpiper but also other shorebirds such as Black-tailed Godwit , Whimbrel , Eurasian Curlew, Common Redshank, Marsh Sandpiper, Common Greenshank, Wood Sandpiper, Terek Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, Red-necked Stint, Long-toed Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Pacific Golden Plover , Grey Plover ,Little Ringed Plover, Kentish Plover ,Lesser Sand Plover and Greater Sand Plover; Gulls ,Terns and rare Painted Stork. We will do bird watching the whole three days on the shore in Gulf of Mottama (formerly Martaban). Accommodation will be on traditional fishing boat, very basic. Meals should be on package. This optional tour should be arranged in advance.This itinerary should be changeable according to the Birders’ request.
